Plugin Development 

PostNL 

In this case study, we share how we worked together with PostNL to build a reliable shipping integration for Shopware. Many webshops had no easy way to connect their Shopware store with PostNL services, so PostNL asked us to create a custom solution.

We developed a plugin that makes it easy for merchants to use PostNL directly from their Shopware backend. The plugin includes useful features like shipping label and barcode creation, domestic and international shipping, return labels, and delivery options during checkout. Customers also receive automatic email updates about their orders.

 

The Challenge

PostNL needed a reliable integration for Shopware. Currently, merchants had no native way to connect PostNL shipping services to their Shopware store. To fill this gap, we were asked to build a custom plugin that offered all essential shipping and return features, fully aligned with Shopware's backend.

The Solution 

Memo developed a Shopware plugin using PHP to simplify and enhance the integration of PostNL shipping services.

The plugin offers a wide range of features, including:

● Shipping label & barcode generation
● Domestic and international shipping (EU & Non-EU)
● Return labels & outbound label reuse
● Delivery options directly in the checkout
● Validation of Dutch addresses during the checkout process
● Support for various PostNL shipping products
● Automated notification emails to keep your customers informed

The plugin is suitable for both Dutch and Belgian webshops, making it a versatile solution for merchants in the Benelux region.

 

Smart UX & Ongoing Development

Unlike traditional plugins with long dropdowns, we implemented a
dynamic system that matches shipping and delivery options based on
merchant preferences. We used toggles instead of complex menus.
The plugin is continuously updated, with the next major milestone being
compatibility with PostNL’s new API (Landscape).
