Interview with Johan: How the Conflux app helps you improve Shopify product data

Discover how Memo’s Conflux app connects Ergonode and Shopify in a simple, automated way. Learn why Conflux was created, how it improves product data workflows, and how it helps merchants save time and avoid manual updates.

Managing product data in Shopify can take a lot of time, especially when you work with many products or complex information. Shopify is very strong in selling, but it is not built to manage and improve large amounts of product data. That is where Ergonode, a Product Information Management (PIM) system, becomes helpful. To make these two systems work smoothly together, Memo created Conflux, a smart connector that sends product data from Ergonode straight into Shopify.

In this blog, we will share the story behind Conflux, based on insights from our founder Johan Moormann.

How the idea for Conflux started

The idea began during a conversation with a potential client. They wanted to use Shopify together with Ergonode but discovered that the connection only worked through import and export files. This meant extra manual steps every time they wanted to update their product data.

Johan saw that this was unnecessary and could cause mistakes or delays. It made him think:
Why not build a tool that updates Shopify automatically whenever something changes in Ergonode? This was the starting point of Conflux.

What problem did Johan see?

There wasn’t a direct problem with Shopify’s product data itself. The challenge was the workflow. Shopify is built for selling products, not for improving complex product information. Ergonode is much better for that. It offers tools, even AI,  to help create and improve product content.

But switching between systems, updating files, and re-importing data created extra work. Johan believed this could be much easier.

Why a separate connection was needed

The key was creating a smooth, automated flow. When product data changes, merchants should not have to think about updating the webshop manually. Conflux solves this by sending updated information from Ergonode to Shopify in real time.

Meaning, no repeated tasks, fewer mistakes, and more focus on growth instead of maintenance.

Why Memo built Conflux in-house

We decided to build Conflux themselves because they wanted a future-proof solution, not just for Ergonode, but for multiple systems. Conflux is designed as a flexible connector that can grow and support more integrations over time. It is not limited to one platform.

Conflux gives merchants a simple and native way to connect their PIM with Shopify. Everything stays clean, automated, and easy to control. This helps especially when managing large product catalogs or teams who need clear and reliable data.

Working together with Tomas from Ergonode

Johan and Tomas work closely together in shaping the roadmap for Conflux. Tomas brings deep knowledge of Ergonode, product data structures, and PIM best practices. Johan brings the Shopify expertise and technical vision for how the connection should work in real stores. Together, they combine PIM strategy with Shopify execution.

Moreover, Johan is proud that Conflux makes it possible to connect Shopify with other systems in a simple, user-friendly way, all directly from the Shopify environment. It turns a complex task into something easy and accessible for every merchant. We hope to grow Conflux into a platform that supports many more systems and data types.

The main goal is to help merchants work faster and smarter by removing manual steps and delivering a smooth, automated data flow. In the future, Conflux will continue to expand and support even more integrations.
