Shopware partner in the Netherlands: the team behind your webshop

Choosing a platform is the easy half of the decision. The hard half is choosing who builds on it, because that is where the difference sits between a webshop that lasts three years and one you have rebuilt after eighteen months.

This page is not about what we build, because that is covered on the page about Shopware webshop development. This page is about who we are as a partner, how a project runs with us, and what you should be checking at any agency. Including the ones that are not us.

What a Shopware partnership actually tells you

Shopware runs an official partner programme. Agencies admitted to it are listed in the partner directory on shopware.com, with their certifications and specialisations shown. Memo is a Shopware Bronze Partner and has been a partner since 2018, with more than eight years of webshop development behind it.

Partner status is not a seal of approval for taste or collaboration, but it does say something factual: there is a direct relationship with Shopware, the team is demonstrably trained on the platform, and Shopware sees the projects coming through. That is more than “we work with Shopware too”.

What those tiers are based on, incidentally, is mainly revenue through the platform. That says something about volume, not about the quality of the work. So look at the certifications in the team, at the specialisations Shopware records for an agency and at the projects actually delivered, rather than at the colour of a badge.

Shopware lists our specialisations as B2C, B2B, e-commerce strategy and consulting, interface development, app development, third-party integrations, multichannel and omnichannel, shop migrations and technical support. We are also an accredited training company and a member of Shopware United.

Business partner and extension partner: why the difference matters

Most Shopware agencies are business partners: they build webshops for clients. A smaller group is also an extension partner, building software that other companies install in their own Shopware environments and that is distributed through the official Shopware Store. Memo is both, with six extensions in the Store and an average rating of five stars.

Why that matters to you as a shop owner comes down to how it forces us to work. An extension running in hundreds of shops cannot break on a platform update and has to work in environments we will never see. That enforces a certain discipline: no changes to the core, proper use of the extension points Shopware provides, and code that survives a version upgrade.

We carry that discipline into client projects, where it translates into lower maintenance cost and updates that do not eat a weekend. It also means we know where the line is: in a quote we can substantiate when something is better served by a standard extension than by custom code, because we know both sides of that choice from experience. What that side of our work involves is covered on Shopware plugin and extension development.

Certifications are personal and tied to a version, so they lapse if you do not keep them current. The team currently holds seven valid Shopware 6 certifications:

  • 3 × Certified Backend Developer
  • 2 × Certified Frontend Developer
  • 1 × Backend Developer Intermediate
  • 1 × Frontend Developer Intermediate

How a project runs with us

Introduction. A thirty-minute conversation about your current setup, your systems and where things are getting stuck. No quote yet.

Solution architecture. Before a line of code is written, we map how Shopware relates to your ERP, PIM and other systems, and which data is authoritative where. This is the phase where most later costs are avoided.

Building in sprints. Working functionality in short cycles, in an environment you can follow yourself. Every sprint you see what is finished and can steer while steering is still cheap.

Delivery and go-live. Data migration, redirects, testing and a go-live runbook. Someone from the build team is reachable on the day itself.

Support and further development. After go-live the same team stays available for updates, security and the next phase.

On response times we are clear: Shopware obliges its partners to respond within four working days. That is the floor you can fall back on with any partner agency, not the level we aim for. What else belongs in a support agreement depends on how critical your shop is and how your organisation works, so we put it in writing rather than leaving it to expectations.

Where you are based makes little difference. We are in Emmen, and for almost no client is that a practical obstacle: most of the work runs digitally, with fixed contact moments and an environment you can follow continuously. For kick-offs, workshops and go-lives we come to you, across the Netherlands and Belgium.

What a regional base does give you: a fixed team you know by name, little turnover, and short lines of communication. You talk to the people who built your shop, not to an account manager who will check and get back to you. The team works in Dutch and English, and with clients in Germany, Kempers.de among them, we work in exactly the same way.

What to check when choosing a Shopware partner

An honest checklist, usable at agencies that are not us. Keep asking until you get an answer you can verify.

  • Valid certifications: how many are valid right now, and for which version.
  • Who actually builds it: the people at the table, or somebody else.
  • Where they stand on custom development: an agency that says yes to everything is selling maintenance cost.
  • A migration that did not go smoothly: no example at all is not an honest answer.
  • Life after go-live: who does the updates, and at what price.
  • A quote broken down per layer: a single total cannot be compared with anything.

That last one is the most important, and also the easiest to forget. Our page on Shopware costs sets out which layers such a breakdown consists of, so you can put quotes side by side.

Ask about work that does not come from a client as well. The clearest example at Memo is PostNL's official Shopware 6 plugin: we developed it in PHP, it is publicly available via github.com/postnl/shopware6, it handles labels, barcodes, returns and delivery options for Dutch and Belgian webshops, and hundreds of merchants run on it. What that work looks like is described in the PostNL case.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is a Shopware partner?

An agency officially admitted to Shopware's partner programme and listed on shopware.com with its certifications and specialisations. There is a direct relationship with Shopware and the team is demonstrably trained on the platform. Memo has been a Bronze Partner since 2018 and is also a Shopware Extension Partner.

What is the difference between a business partner and an extension partner?

A business partner builds Shopware webshops for clients. An extension partner develops software distributed through the official Shopware Store and installed by other companies. Memo is both, with six extensions in the Store and PostNL's official Shopware 6 plugin to its name.

How many certified Shopware developers does Memo have?

The team currently holds seven valid Shopware 6 certifications: three Certified Backend Developer, two Certified Frontend Developer, one Backend Developer Intermediate and one Frontend Developer Intermediate. Certifications are version-bound, so we keep them current as Shopware releases new versions.

Do you work with clients outside the north of the Netherlands?

Yes. We are based in Emmen and work with clients across the Netherlands and Belgium, running projects largely digitally with in-person sessions for kick-offs, workshops and go-lives. The team works in Dutch and English and has experience with the German market.

Can Memo take over an existing Shopware webshop from another agency?

Yes. We start with a technical review of the code, the extensions and the hosting, so it is clear what you have inherited and what bringing it up to date will cost. After that we agree a handover and a maintenance rhythm.
